DR. ALEKSEY ZALESOV

Aleksey Zalesov has been leading IP litigation counsel with major law firm in Moscow from 2001 to 2017.He has practised IP law since 1993 and has dealt with more than 250 patent and trademark litigations before Russian courts and administrative bodies.

Scores

Dr Zalesov has prevailed in many precedent-setting cases, including:

  • the first successful online trademark enforcement action and recovery of damages;
  • the first successful database copyright enforcement, with significant damages recovered;
  • the first pharmaceutical patent enforcement, with significant compensation for damages;
  • the first successful recovery of moral damages in a patent infringement case;
  • the first successful enforcement of an appellation of origin;
  • successful defence of pharmaceutical product manufacturer against infringement claim based on method of treatment with produced product.

Expertise

Dr Zalesov specialises in patent litigation, including infringement and validity trials. He is well known for successful invalidation of more than 40 Russian and Eurasian patents, mostly focusing on pharmaceuticals, applied science and electronics while the amount of successfully defended patents in validity trials is over 55. He has also represented clients before the Supreme Arbitration Court and the Supreme Court.

Dr Zalesov has represented major foreign clients in court and the Chamber for Patent Disputes (e.g. Ferrero, Porsche, Shell, Kia Motors, Nestlé, Seiko Epson, Canon, Dyson, Sony, Rado, Ericsson, British American Tobacco, Ishida, Teva, Ratiopharm, Actavis, KRKA and Gedeon Richter).

Qualification

In addition to an LLM from the Moscow Academy of Law and a PhD in law from the Russian Institute of Intellectual Property, Dr Zalesov holds a Master's degree in physics from the Moscow Physics Engineering Institute. He is registered as attorney-at-law (member of the Moscow Advocate's Chamber, reg. 77/13623) a Russian patent and trademark attorney (reg.904) and a Eurasian patent attorney (reg.189). He serves as president of the Russian group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property and President of the Russian Patent Attorney's Chamber. As a member of the Russian Institute of Intellectual Property and the Moscow Academy of Law (IP section), Dr Zalesov regularly contributes to academic studies in IP law.


IRINA OZOLINA

Irina Ozolina acted as IP litigator and then as deputy head of litigation practice with major IP law firm in Moscow, practicing IP law with focus on IP litigation since 2003.

Expertise

Mrs. Ozolina represented her clients (both as plaintiff and defendant) in more than 150 court and administrative IP disputes on patent, trademark and copyright enforcement matters and patent and trademark invalidation cases. She also acted as litigation counsel to the parties in numerous proceedings before the Federal Antimonopoly Service (and further appeal with the court) in unfair competition disputes (including trademark and patent right abuse disputes). Representation of the clients before the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation (Senate for Economic Disputes) also forms a part of her professional experience.

Mrs. Ozolina prepared a number of publications for the Russian and foreign editions specialising in IP law matters, took part in preparation of a monograph for the Austrian Chamber for Commerce and Industry regarding IP protection in BRICS countries. She is an active speaker in different national IP Events, and has vast experience in holding educational seminars for Russian science and industry on IP matters.

Mrs. Ozolina graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Law with distinction, and holds a Diploma of the Russian Intellectual Property Academy. She is registered Russian Patent and Trademark Attorney and registered attorney-at-law.

MARIA MAKHLINA

Maria Makhlina worked for a major IP law firm since 2006 to 2017, specialising in patent searches, FTO and validity opinions and IP litigation.

Expertise

Ms. Makhlina, apart from her litigation experience before the Chamber for Patent Disputes, as well as before the courts in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, is a very experienced patent searcher. She has more than 10 years' experience in patent searchers in different fields of art, which makes her participation in conferences and webinars on patent search techniques even more valuable.

Ms. Makhlina also supports foreign clients in patenting selection achievements in Russia and former CIS countries and represents clients for registration of computer programs.

Ms. Makhlina has a vast experience in representing and assisting to foreign clients, in particular, Japanese, American and European companies.

Qualification

Ms. Makhlina graduated from MEPhI (Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute) as a specialist in international scientific and technological cooperation and holds a lawyer's diploma from the Russian Academy of Intellectual Property.


DR. NATALIA SAMSONOVA

Natalia Samsonova worked for a major IP law firm in a litigation team for more than 7 years. Her previous experience as a researcher and co-inventor in one of the major pharmaceutical companies in Russia enables her understand the needs of the clients from their point of view.

Expertise

Ms. Samsonova is an indispensable part of the litigation team in pharma patent disputes, giving her deep expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology and seeing the hidden peculiarities of the substantial matter of a patent case no lawyer can trace.

The value of her experience in patent invalidation trials and in preparing numerous freedom-to-operate and validity opinions in the field of biochemistry, molecular biology and pharmaceuticals is hard to overestimate. Anastasia Kiriukhina

Initially, Mrs. Kiriukhina worked for a Scientific and Production Company in the field of electric power engineering as a patent engineer from 2008 to 2012, then from 2012 to 2013 worked for a National Thermal Engineering Institute as an engineer of a Patent Department. In the period from 2013 up to 2017, Mrs. Kiriukhina worked for a major IP company in a trademark department.

Vlad Ryabov

Dr. Kornev has a vast and profound experience in chemical technology and material science. Apart from his skills and knowledge in patent drafting and prosecution, he also has a profound experience as an in-court expert in patent infringement and invalidation disputes serving as expert for IP Court and Moscow City Arbitration Court.

Qualification

Mr. Kornev holds M.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering and Technology and Ph.D. Chemistry degree from the Dmitry Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia.

Being registered Russian Patent Attorney and Eurasian Patent Attorney, he gained his experience in patent prosecution and drafting in one of the major Russian patent law firms as well as in pharmaceuticals industry as an in-house patent attorney. He also has an important academic experience as a visiting professor of chemistry in Moscow Technological University.

Qualification

Yurij Pinchuk holds M.Sc. degree in Aviation Mechanical Engineering from the Moscow Aviation Technological University. His further experience as a research engineer in the Central Scientific and Research Technological Institute gave him knowledge and practical skills and became a good start for further career. Mr. Pinchuk obtained post graduated degree in patent expertise from the Soviet Institute of Patent Expertise (now known as the Russian State Intellectual Property Academy).

For more than 10 years Mr.Pinchuk worked in the State Patent Office starting from a position of an expert in the All-Russian Scientific and Research Institute of the State Patent Examination (today — the Federal Institute of Industrial Property) — up to the deputy head of examination department and further — to a leading specialist of the High Patent Chamber of Rospatent (now it is Chamber for Patent Disputes — a department of RU PTO responsible in particular for patent oppositions and invalidations trials). Thereafter he worked as a patent attorney focusing on patent drafting and prosecution in several fields of art including mechanics, aviation, automative, electrical equipment and telematics in one of the major Russian patent firms for 8 years and after that in a major foreign patent firm working in Russia.

LARISA OSHARINA

Russian and Eurasian Patent Attorney, electronics engineer, has more than 35 years of experience in patent work, including patent prosecution, litigation and invalidation.

Expertise

Having started as an engineer in a scientific research organisation, she worked as a patent engineer for more than 10 years thereafter, than worked for the Patent Office in the department responsible for legislation and methodology, having changed this for the experience as a patent attorney.

Qualification

Mrs. Osharina holds M.Sc. Electronics Engineer degree from Moscow Institute of Electronic Technics. Having received an additional education in patent expertise she gained her experience in patent prosecution, working as a patent engineer in the Scientific and Research Institute of Fine Technology in Zelenograd and further — in one of the Russian oldest telecommunication companies.

After some experience in Rospatent in the Department of Legislation and Legal Support of Examination, she started her practice as a patent attorney in 1996, representing and advising the clients in patent prosecution, patent litigation and invalidation in Russian and known foreign patent law firms working in Russia.

KSENIA ZALESOVA

Patent Filing Specialist

Mrs. Zalesova has a vast experience in patent filings, having been responsible for formalities related to filing new patent applications with the Russian Patent Office and the Eurasian Patent Office for many years.

Qualification

Mrs. Zalesova holds M.Sc. degree from Moscow State Pedagogical University, Faculty of Foreign Languages, also has a Diploma of patent specialist awarded by the Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property. She worked as assistant in the N. N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center of RAMS. From 2000 till 2017 worked as senior specialist in the Group of Patent Filings of a large patent law firm.


LEO OZOLIN

Patent engineer

Mr. Ozolin joined our team as a patent engineer to support the patent team in the field of IT and telecommunications.

Qualification

Mr. Ozolin holds M.Sc. Applied Mathematics and Computation degree from Moscow Aviation Institute. He is an experienced programmer with solid knowledge of mathematical and computational methods that are aimed to solve challenging problems in engineering, business, computer science, and industry.


ILONA GERASIMOVA

Patent engineer

Mrs. Gerasimova undertakes patent and trademark prosecution as well as supporting patent and trademark attorneys in day-to-day work.

Qualification

She holds M.Sc. Avionics Engineer degree from Moscow Engineering Technological Institute.
