The annual AIPPI World Congress was held in Yokohama, Japan, from September 13-16, 2025.

Traditionally, the congress provides a platform for discussing legal trends and networking with colleagues from other countries. This year, the event brought together over 2700 intellectual property experts from around the world.

Aleksey Zalesov, Irina Ozolina and Maria Makhlina, partners of «A.Zalesov & Partners» Patent & Law Firm, actively participated in the congress as part of the AIPPI Russian group.

Thus, Irina Ozolina took part in the discussion of a resolution on damages caused to defendants by interim measures in intellectual property disputes. According to Irina, such disputes are rare in arbitration proceedings, but quite common in civil proceedings. Among the issues on the agenda were: whether damages should be compensated regardless of the plaintiff's fault, or whether the plaintiff's good faith in seeking interim measures should be taken into account, and, if so, where the line is drawn between good faith and bad faith.

Other working committees discussed issues such as trademark exhaustion, the conditions for issuing compulsory licenses, and copyright in the use of artificial intelligence.
